Goal #4 - Service to the Commonwealth
College Goal
To develop, strengthen, promote, and sustain exemplary public arts programming and outreach that demonstrate the University's commitment to the arts as a cultural resource for growth and betterment of the Commonwealth.
Objective 1:
To make outreach to external communities an essential element of all programs
Actions:
- Secure external funding to sustain and strengthen the Center for Watershed Stewardship and the Hamer Center for Community Design Assistance, two of the college’s crucially important outreach centers.
- Engage alumni and practitioner resources in identifying new opportunities for community outreach and collaborations.
- Expand the School of Theatre’s touring program.
- Ensure that the Outdoor Public Art Committee succeeds in its efforts to place significant works of art on the University Park campus.
- Enhance online access to the visual archives and collection of the Palmer Museum of Art, focused initially on works on paper.
- Continue to develop and implement the Pennsylvania Creative Achievement in the Arts program that recognizes both young artists and their teachers in high schools across the Commonwealth.
Objective 2:
To make continuing professional development in the arts for external audiences an essential element of all of our professional programs
Action:
- Primarily through the Palmer Museum of Art, support the goals of PA Act 48 (Continuing Professional Development for Pennsylvania Educators) through programs specifically designed to address the needs and requirements of teacher recertification. Develop online resources and, upon request, partner with K-12 schools for in-services and programs.
Objective 3:
To continue to build University Arts Services programming to achieve recognition for excellence and innovation
Action:
- Commit to commissioning of new works by the Center for the Performing Arts.
