Blue Band

Lori Bowers and David Uhazie Endowed Scholarship for Blue Band Feature Twirler
Established by first feature twirler of the Blue Band, Lori Bowers (’82 B.A. Advertising), and her husband, David Uhazie (’82 B.S. Finance), to provide recognition to the feature twirler in the Blue Band.

Ned C. and Janette M. Deihl Blue Band Scholarship
Established by Ned C. Diehl, former director of the Blue Band, his wife and others to recognize talent and dedication of band members. Consideration will be given to undergraduate students with demonstrated extraordinary talent and dedication as members of the Blue Band and Symphonic Band or Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

William M. and Bette L. Detterer Blue Band Endowment
Established by William M. Detterer (í78 B.A. General Arts and Sciences) to provide monies for program support for the Penn State Blue Band.

William M. and Bette L. Detterer Trustee Matching Scholarship
Established by William M. Detterer ('78 B.A. General Arts and Sciences) to recognize undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Arts and Architecture at The Pennsylvania State University who have demonstrated a financial need, with first preference given to students who are members of the Penn State Blue Band.

James W. Dunlop Memorial Scholarship Fund
Presented in memory of the late Dr. Dunlop, conductor of the Blue Band for 29 years. Consideration will be given to undergraduate students with a satisfactory academic record who has given outstanding service to either the Blue Band, or concert bands.

Hum Fishburn Memorial Scholarship
Presented in memory of the late Hum Fishburn (’22 B.A. Commerce and Finance and ’25 M.Ed. Ed. Admin.), previous director of the School of Music and head of the Blue Band. Consideration will be given to graduate and undergraduate students who are members or anticipatory members of the Blue Band who have exhibited superior ability.

David L. Harmon Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund for Blue Band
Presented in memory of David L. Harmon (’91 B.A. Speech Communications and ’94 M.P.A. Master of Public Administration), a former member of the Blue Band, by his wife, Lillian Parlato Harmon (’93 B.S. Music Ed.). Consideration will be given to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Arts and Architecture that are members of the Blue Band.

Paul B. Holder Scholarship Award in Music Activities
Established by the Pennsylvania Lambda Educational Foundation to recognize outstanding dedication and achievement by undergraduate students (non-music majors) in their fourth or fifth year of participation in the marching Blue Band and one or more orchestral, band or vocal groups.

Kermit and Hassel Hurwitz Endowed Scholarship Fund for the Blue Band
Established by the late Margaret Hurwitz in honor and memory of her husband Kermit Hurwitz (’37 B.S. Ag. Economics) and her brother-in-law, Hassel Hurwitz (’29 B.A. Pre-Law). Consideration will be given to undergraduate students within the College of Arts and Architecture who are members of the Blue Band. Preference shall be given to, but not limited to, residents of Union County, Pa.

Jodi Lynn Kline Memorial Marching Blue Band Silk Endowment
Presented in memory of the late Jodi Lynn Kline (’89 B.A. Advertising) to provide monies for program support for the Penn State Marching Blue Band Silk Line and for the purchase of equipment and other necessary expenses to enhance the visual aspect of the band front of the marching Blue Band.

Dr. Jeannie McKenzie Pedlow Trustee Scholarship
Established by Dr. John A. Pursley ('41 B.S. Chem Engr) to recognize undergraduate students enrolled at The Pennsylvania State University who have a demonstrated financial need, with first preference given to students who are members of the Penn State Blue Band.

Philip R. and Eleanor C. Prutzman Blue Band Scholarship
Established from the estate of Philip R. Prutzman ('41 B.S. ED) and Eleanor C. Prutzman. Consideration shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students who are planning to enroll in the School of Music, who will be performing members of the Blue Band, who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success, and who have demonstrated extraordinary musical talent.

Jean Phillips Shibley Memorial Blue Band Scholarship
Presented in memory of the late Jean Alene Phillips Shibley (’47 B.S. Health and Physical Ed.) by her husband, Raymond N. Shibley, to recognize outstanding members of the University’s marching Band. Consideration will be given to full-time undergraduate students who are members of the Blue Band who possess superior musical ability.

Gregory and Robert Stock Endowed Scholarship
Established by Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Stock (’50 B.S. Mech. Engineering) and their son, Gregory E. Stock (’87 B.S. Business Logistics and ’91 M.B.A.), former drum major. Consideration will be given to full-time undergraduate students who have been a member of the Marching Blue Band for at least one year and have an appointment as the drum major of the Blue Band.

Walter H. Stauffenberg Memorial Blue Band Endowment
Established by the estate of Walter H. Stauffenberg ('49 B.S. Chem. Engr.) to provide monies for the unrestricted program support of the Penn State Blue Band.
