Get Involved! Student Groups for Arts and Architecture Students

The following is a list of student-run organizations that may be of interest to students in the College of Arts and Architecture. They may or may not be sponsored by the College of Arts and Architecture or any of its units. For more information about a student organization, follow the links below or go to the Student Activities.

The list below is not intended to be comprehensive. A complete list is available through the Student Affairs site.

 

College Wide:
ARTS AND ARCHITECTURE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT COUNCIL: open to all undergraduate students in the College of Arts & Architecture. Acts as the representative body of the students in the College; provides students enrolled in the College with academic representation in the Undergraduate Student Government.

CREATIVE ENTERTAINMENT: provides opportunities for all students with different talents to develop their skills through a farm system in order for them to perform and produce various kinds of innovate entertainment that can help an inspiring artist in the professional world.

 

Landscape Architecture:
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE STUDENT SOCIETY: fosters and maintains high standards, makes full preparation toward professional qualifications, and acts as a liaison between students and faculty/administration

 

Music:
See the School of Music site for a complete list of opportunities. NOTE: to audition for any of these ensembles, or to receive information concerning any ensemble, come to the Music Building during orientation week. Information regarding the time and locations of auditions for various ensembles will be posted in the Lobby of the Music Building. All ensembles earn one academic credit.

COLLEGIATE MUSIC EDUCATORS NATIONAL CONFERENCE: makes available to members opportunities for professional development, and acquaints students with the privileges and responsibilities of the music education profession.

DELTA OMICRON: creates and fosters fellowship through music; gives music students an opportunity to meet with one another; and, by personal contact and exchange of ideas, broadens the individual outlook, strengthens devotion and loyalty to the alma mater, develops character and leadership, and encourages the highest possible scholastic attainment, etc.

INDOOR DRUMLINE: provides a structured opportunity for students to enhance their competitive spirit and broaden their musical abilities through the use of instruction and competition.

INTERNATIONAL ASSOC. OF JAZZ EDUCATORS: brings together those who are interested in learning more about jazz, the only true American art form; provides teaching opportunities for music students who are to become musicians and music educators; promotes jazz education within the School of Music; and draws top student jazz musicians to Penn State University.

JAZZ CLUB: brings together those who are interested in jazz and promotes this musical art form for the benefit of the University community and the general public.

NONE OF THE ABOVE (NOTA): explores friendship, musicianship, and unique and varied forms of a cappella music for mixed voices (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) through practice and performance on campus and off.

PHI MU ALPHA SINFONIA: encourages and actively promotes the highest standards of creativity, performance, education, and research in music.

SINGING LIONS: gives concerts, on and off campus, of music written or adapted for mixed voices.

UNITED SOUL ENSEMBLE GOSPEL CHOIR: delivers through Gospel music and song, praises to the Lord in a spiritual manner.

 

Theatre/Performing Arts:
ART OF SOUL - AFRICAN AMERICAN THEATER COMPANY: promotes the awareness of African-American theater at the Penn State, and surrounding communities at large; fosters cultural diversity by means of education and entertainment through theater.

DANCE TEAM: performs Kickline routines at Penn State athletic/school events and completes with other collegiate Kickline teams.

INTERNATIONAL DANCE ENSEMBLE: performs, promotes, and provides access to the music and dance of the cultures and nationalities of the world..

NO REFUND THEATRE (NRT): lets students regardless of major, perform, direct, and produce all types of theatre. NRT gives students who enjoy theatre a chance to work with theatre.

ORCHESIS DANCE COMPANY: Increases dance technique skills on a professional level by providing experiences in the various styles of dance.

PERFORMING MAGICIANS: discusses aspects of magic and the performance of magic, shares secrets, techniques, and helps members advance in the performance of magic from the knowledge of one another.

STATE COLLEGE INTERACTIVE THEATRE SOCIETY: serves as a networking and planning organization for individuals interested in interactive theater and live-action role playing. The society provides props, obtains stage locations, and reimburses individuals who choose to direct such events.

STUDENT FILMAKERSÍ ORGANIZATION: shows weekly films and regularly holds workshops. The ñCan Film Festivalî is an annual event sponsored by the organization for theater and film students to submit films to be shown to the general public.

SYNERGY: provides a forum for any student, faculty member and community member, whether they be dancers or not, to experiment with movement and provides members with opportunities to perform. It enriches the communities of the Pennsylvania State University and State College through regularly scheduled free performances.

THE NEXT GENERATION: Challenges its members with a rigorous, fast-paced theatrical experience; strives to push members to the absolute limits of short rehearsal periods.

THESPIANS: presents theatrical entertainment and provides experience for students in all phases of production. This is the oldest, continuously active student organization at the University Park campus.

 

Visual Arts/Art Education:
ART EDUCATION GRADUATE STUDENTS CLUB: Provides and encourage social and academic events which contribute to the professional development of the membership.

M.A.C.H. 3-D: provides members with a forum to discuss issues and problems that arise in the area of 3D computer modeling and animation and creates an environment where members can discuss, work on, and critique individual projects.

PENNSYLVANIA ART EDUCATION ASSOCIATION: provides and encourages social and academic events that contribute and pertain to the professional development of art education.
