Faculty Handbook

Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to the College of Arts and Architecture.  You have a critically important role in this College and we appreciate your commitment to our mission and our students.

This handbook is intended to provide guidance to you regarding your appointment and responsibilities, our expectations of you, and our commitment to you.  You also should become familiar with the Penn State faculty handbook available at http://www.psu.edu/provost/FacultyHandbook/.

Regardless of your position, this handbook outlines important procedures, processes, and expectations.  Each of you fulfills an absolutely essential role in helping educate our students in the research that you do and in the service that you provide to the University, and we want to make this process as efficient and stimulating for you as possible.  Whether you are new to us, or one who has provided years of service, we appreciate your talents and welcome your contributions.

While this handbook outlines much of what you’ll need to know about Penn State, I also encourage you to consult frequently with your department head or school director about any questions you may have.  They are all valuable sources of information about the University.  In addition, Craig Zabel, our Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Outreach, can be reached at 865-9523.  Our Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies is Gunalan Nadarajan.  Guna can be reached at 863-0408.  I can be contacted at 865-2591.

My gratitude to former Associate Dean Ed Williams, School Director Charles Garoian and former Director Richard Green, and Jenny Watson, the College’s Human Resources Manager for their work in compiling this handbook and to Rosalie Bailey, administrative assistant to Dean Nadarajan, for her support of its production.

Yvonne Gaudelius, Interim Dean
