22nd Annual Blue and White Concert

April 18, 2005

The 22nd Annual Blue and White Concert of the Penn State Glee Club occurs on Saturday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Eisenhower Auditorium. The concert is dedicated to and will be a celebration of the 35-year tenure of retiring director Bruce Trinkley, who came to Penn State from Columbia University in 1970. The Glee Club is one of the oldest and most distinguished male collegiate choruses in the country (dating back to 1888), and the oldest musical organization at the University. Professor Trinkley has led the Glee Club in over 700 performances and has taken the club abroad to such venues as the National Cathedral in Washington, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, and Notre-Dame in Paris. He has composed musicals, operas, ballets and numerous choral settings that have been widely published and have received extensive critical acclaim. He is most well-known for the Pennsylvania Bicentennial Wagon Train Show, which received more than 2000 performances throughout the United States during 1975-76.

The club is expecting over 100 Glee Club Alumni to be present for the event. Alumni will be invited to sing for the entire second half of the concert, which will feature traditional men's chorus repertoire and a smattering of Penn State songs, including the Alma Mater. The concert will have a few surprises and special presentations for Professor Trinkley as well. A reception follows the concert in the conference room of Eisenhower Auditorium. Tickets are available at the door, or can be purchased in advance (recommended to avoid long lines before the concert) by calling the Arts Ticket Center at 814-863-0255.
