School of Music Professor Recognized as Outstanding Alumnus

Michael Broyles, distinguished professor of music, has been named Outstanding Alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin. Broyles, who holds a master's degree in music theory and a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Texas, was presented the award in an April ceremony. He was at the university as keynote speaker for the Southwest Chapter of the American Musicological Society. Broyles, whose most recent book is Mavericks and Other Traditions in American Music, published by Yale University Press, is also president of the Society for American Music, an international scholarly organization.
