Penn State Theatre Professor Performs in Philadelphia, Roanoke and Lancaster

January 14, 2005

Jane Ridley, professor of theatre, is currently appearing as Fanny Kemble in Mrs. Kemble’s Tempest at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, through January 23, 2005. She previously performed this role in the School of Theatre’s 2003 production and in the 2003 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Fanny Kemble was a 19th-century English actress, writer and abolitionist, and actually performed at the Walnut Street Theatre as a young Juliet opposite her father's Romeo. The play, by Tom Ziegler, tells the story of Kemble’s life and centers on her farewell performance. Essentially a one-woman show, this performance also features Mark Yurkanin as pianist.

From February 23 through March 13, Ridley will appear as Gertrude in Hamlet at the Mill Mountain Theatre in Roanoke, Va. She will also appear in Enchanted April at Lancaster’s Fulton Opera House from April 28 through May 15.
