Evelynn Ellis to Perform Annual Clarinet Recital

May 6, 2005

Evelynn Ellis will perform her annual clarinet recital on Friday, May 20, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 110 of Music Building I. She will be joined by Anthony Leach, piano and Norene Ferris, soprano. Leach is an associate professor of music at Penn State and conducts several choirs on campus, including Essence of Joy. He is frequently sought after as a guest conductor and clinician around the world. Ferris is the coordinator of the Center for the Study of Music, Learning and Teaching, which includes the music education student teaching program. Ferris joined the Penn State faculty after a successful 35 year teaching and singing career in the New York Public Schools.

The concert will consist of three major works for the clarinet. The trio will open with Schubert's Shepherd on the Rock for Clarinet, Soprano and Piano. This is one of the most treasured trios in the clarinet literature. It will be followed by one of the grand dames of clarinet concertos, Concerto No. 1 by Ludwig Spohr, Op. 26. The concert will conclude with the "Undine" Sonata by Carl Reinecke, Op. 167 bis.

The recital is free and open to the public. Young musicians of all ages are strongly encouraged to attend.
