College of Arts and Architecture Spring 2005 Student Marshals

College Marshal

Brian Zoeller, son of Joe and Sandy Zoeller of Chambersburg, Pa., has been named the student marshal for Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture for the spring 2005 commencement ceremonies, to be held at noon on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus.  The title of college marshal is awarded to the student who has earned the highest overall grade-point average in the college.

Receiving a B.S. art education with a focus in studio arts, Zoeller has been active as a shop technician in the college’s wood and metal shops. He has also been a member of the Lady Lions basketball practice team, a camp counselor at the Penn State Lady Lion basketball camp and a volunteer at the United Way’s Trash to Treasure event. Among other awards, Zoeller received the Brian Betzler Memorial Scholarship and the Robert C. Boyd Honors Scholarship and has been on the dean’s list for four years. Zoeller also started his own business, Nittany Lofts, which he founded, owned and operated.

Zoeller plans to teach art at one of Pennsylvania’s public high schools.

Department of Architecture

Sally Jean Gimbert, daughter of Dr. Belinda G. Gimbert and Dr. Dean S. Cristol of Norfolk, Va., has been named the student marshal for Penn State’s Department of Architecture for the spring 2005 commencement ceremonies, to be held at noon on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus. The title of department marshal is awarded to the student who has earned the highest overall grade-point average in the department.

Gimbert, a Schreyer Honors College scholar, will graduate with a bachelor of architecture degree. Among other awards, Gimbert received the 2004 Reuben and Gladys Golumbic Scholarship and the 2004 Ewing Cherry Cole Architecture and Architectural Engineering Scholarship. She was awarded honorable mention for fourth-year candidates in the 2004 John S. Stewardson Memorial Architecture Competition, a prestigious statewide competition in Pennsylvania. Gimbert has been a member of Penn State’s women’s rugby club and Tri-County Habitat for Humanity.

A native of Australia, Gimbert has participated in the American Indian Housing Initiative, helping to design and build a literacy center on a Northern Cheyenne reservation in Montana. In addition, she has been involved in several architectural engineering research projects, including structural analysis of Santa Maria Novella, a Florentine church in Italy.

Gimbert plans to pursue a master of science in architectural engineering at Penn State this fall.

 

Department of Art History

Dani Williams, daughter of James and Andrea Williams of Reading, Pa., has been named the student marshal for Penn State’s Department of Art History for the spring 2005 commencement ceremonies, to be held at noon on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus. The title of department marshal is awarded to the student who has earned the highest overall grade-point average in the department.

Receiving a B.A. in art history, Williams is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Golden Key Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Williams was also the 2004 Panhellenic Council associate vice president.

Williams plans to continue her studies at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London.

 

Department of Integrative Arts

Timothy Wharton, son of Mary Wharton of Plum, Pa., has been named the student marshal for Penn State’s Department of Integrative Arts for the spring 2005 commencement ceremonies, to be held at noon on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus.  The title of department marshal is awarded to the student who has earned the highest overall grade-point average in the department.

Receiving a B.A. with a double major in integrative arts and advertising, Wharton is a member of the Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Wharton has also been the recipient of a Pittsburgh Advertising Federation Scholarship and a Wayne Hilinski Advertising Scholarship.

Wharton’s professional experience includes creating logos for Taylormade Fitness, a gym and fitness center, O Bella, which sells health and beauty products, and Apogee Engine Company, an engine supplier. Wharton is currently working as a temporary designer at Mullen, an advertising agency in Pittsburgh.

 

Department of Landscape Architecture

Ashley Allis, daughter of Joseph and Barbara Allis of Galeton, Pa., has been named the student marshal for Penn State’s Department of Landscape Architecture for the spring 2005 commencement ceremonies, to be held at noon on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus. The title of department marshal is awarded to the student who has earned the highest overall grade-point average in the department.

Allis, who will be receiving a bachelor of landscape architecture degree, was the recipient of the Landscape Architecture Departmental Excellence Award in 2002, 2003 and 2004. She also received the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Merit Award in 2005. Allis held an internship at Fallingwater with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and also with the Susquehanna Greenway Project. Upon graduation, Allis will be employed by Design Workshop in Aspen, Colorado.

 

School of Music

Emily Homan, daughter of Greg and Patti Homan of Manheim, Pa., has been named the student marshal for Penn State’s School of Music for the spring 2005 commencement ceremonies, to be held at noon on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus. The title of department marshal is awarded to the student who has earned the highest overall grade-point average in the department.

Homan, who will be receiving a B.S. in music education, was the recipient of the Willa Taylor Choral Internship Scholarship and the Jury Recognition Award, and has been on the dean’s list every semester. She has been an active member of the Penn State Concert Choir, serving as treasurer her junior year; Penn State Essence of Joy; and Alliance Christian Fellowship, where she served as a student leader.

Homan is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society, Phi Kappa Phi national honor society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is also a member the American Choral Directors Association, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and other organizations related to music and education. Following graduation, Homan hopes to obtain a position teaching choral and general music in a secondary public school.

 

School of Theatre

Julia Kent, daughter of Joyce and Bruce Kent of Harrisburg, Pa., has been named the student marshal for Penn State’s School of Theatre for the spring 2005 commencement ceremonies, to be held at noon on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus. The title of department marshal is awarded to the student who has earned the highest overall grade-point average in the department.

Kent, a Schreyer Honors College scholar and member of Phi Beta Kappa, will earn a B.A. with a triple major in theatre, medieval studies and international studies. While at Penn State, she has directed several original plays for the Outlaws Playwrights Workshop and also been involved in several plays presented by No Refund Theatre. In addition, she has worked with the Harrisburg Eternity Players and in summer 2004 interned at Theatre Harrisburg.

 

School of Visual Arts

Jill Dugan, daughter of Carol Dugan of Rapid City, S.D. and David Dugan of Sayre, Pa., has been named the student marshal for Penn State’s School of Visual Arts for the spring 2005 commencement ceremonies, to be held at noon on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus. The title of department marshal is awarded to the student who has earned the highest overall grade-point average in the department.

Dugan is receiving a B.F.A. in ceramics, and has been on the dean’s list for 10 consecutive semesters. She has been the Penn State Triathlon Club president for two years. She hopes to open her own ceramics business in the future.
