Exhibition, Lecture by Visiting Artist
November 11, 2005
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA — Visiting artist David Ellis will present his recent video projections and drawings in an exhibition, titled Motion Paintings, at the Zoller Gallery on the Penn State University Park campus, November 18–December 8, 2005. He will also give a lecture at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, in the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium, Palmer Museum of Art. His lecture is sponsored by the Penn State School of Visual Arts’ John M. Anderson Artists and Scholars Lecture Series and is free to the public.
For nearly a decade, Ellis has been making films that document the painting process with time lapse photography. This series, called “motion painting,” celebrates the spontaneous and revels in the idea that no condition is permanent. For the show at the Zoller Gallery, a selection of these films, both solo and in collaboration with the Barnstormers (a collective, founded by Ellis, of New York/Tokyo-based artists who create large-scale collaborative paintings, films and performances), will be projected on the gallery walls and entry way. Recent works on tobacco stained paper will also be on view.
Zoller Gallery is open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; and Sunday, noon–4 p.m. A current exhibition schedule is available at www.sova.psu.edu/zoller/current.html.
