Ceramist to Give Public Lecture

November 11, 2005

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA — Ceramist Pete Pinnell, associate professor of art at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, will give a lecture at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium, Palmer Museum of Art on the Penn State University Park campus. His lecture is sponsored by the Penn State School of Visual Arts’ John M. Anderson Artists and Scholars Lecture Series. The lecture is free to the public.

According to Pinnell’s artist statement, his work “is intended to be both utilitarian and esthetic, with both aspects being equally considered … The forms, colors and textures are derived from and inspired by various aspects of nature, especially botanical forms, and the winter landscape of the American Midwest.”

Pinnell, a faculty member at the University of Nebraska since 1997, has received several honors from the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, including being the featured artist at the NCECA national conference in Charlotte, N.C., in 2001. He was an invited participant at the International Ceramics Symposia in China in 2000. His work has been cited in numerous books and journals on ceramics and pottery, and he has authored several articles and a chapter in the book, Paul St. Gaudens, Ceramic Artist.

Pinnell’s work has been featured in exhibitions throughout the United States and in South Africa, Japan and Holland. It is included in the Frederick R. Wiesman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota, Jingdexhen Ceramic Institute in Jingdexhen, China, and the Nidec-Shimpo America Corporate Collection in Itaska, Il., among other collections.
