Toys for Tots Collection Site At Eisenhower Auditorium
October 27, 2005
The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State is a drop-off collection site for the 2005 Toys for Tots campaign. Help make this year's Toys for Tots a success by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to one of the November performances at Eisenhower Auditorium on the Penn State University Park campus.
Collection begins Tuesday and continues through Dec. 7 in the front lobby of Eisenhower at the corner of Shortlidge and Eisenhower roads. Toys for Tots donations may also be dropped off at the Penn State Downtown Theatre Center, 146 S. Allen St., State College. Donations may be made on performance afternoons and evenings at both locations–plus during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at Eisenhower and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday downtown).
Toys for Tots, which began in 1947 with a single collection in Los Angeles, now has almost 500 local campaigns nationwide. The goal of Toys for Tots is "to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders."
The Center for the Performing Arts has four presentations at Eisenhower in November: Ballet Flamenco José Porcel (Nov. 10); Wadaiko Yamato drummers of Japan (Nov. 15); Billie & Me, a tribute to Billie Holiday featuring Rita Coolidge, Niki Harris, Joan Osborne, Dianne Reeves and Rokia Traoré (Nov. 18); and North Carolina Dance Theatre in The Nutcracker (Nov. 29).
