Centre Dimensions Offer Salute to Big Bands of Swing
September 27, 2005
Centre Dimensions, directed by Professor of Music Dan Yoder, will present a salute to the great Big Bands of the Swing Era on Monday, October 10, at 8 p.m. in the Esber Recital Hall, Music Building I, on Penn State's University Park campus. Swing music from the bands of Benny Goodman, Les Brown, Bunny Berigan, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and others will be performed. Most of Centre Dimensions concerts focus on contemporary big band literature, however for this performance, the emphasis shifts to the past. In addition to the great Dance Bands mentioned above, some of the more jazz oriented bands from the same era, such as Count Basie, Stan Kenton and Woody Herman will also be represented.
Students featured on this concert will be Derek McDonald, George Giannios, Jeff Vollmer, Shawn McClintic and Erik Kapusta. Tickets are required and will be available at the door.
