Children and Teens Invited to Audition Oct. 7 at Eisenhower for The Nutcracker
September 27, 2005
The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State is looking for a few good mice–and soldiers, horsemen, angels, dolls and more supporting cast for its upcoming presentation of North Carolina Dance Theatre in The Nutcracker. Auditions for local youths ages 8 to 18 interested in performing in the holiday ballet are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 7, in Eisenhower Auditorium, at the corner of Eisenhower and Shortlidge roads, on the Penn State University Park campus.
The audition for boys ages 8 to 12, for whom no dance experience is required, is from 3:30 to 4 p.m. The audition for girls ages 8 to 18, who must have some dance experience, is from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Girls who have attained advanced ballet levels should bring their pointe shoes with them.
Auditioning youths should enter the main entrance of Eisenhower at the front of the building facing Shortlidge Road. They must arrive 45 minutes prior to the scheduled audition time to fill out forms and have their measurements taken. Students who are late will not be permitted into the audition.
Rehearsal schedules for The Nutcracker will be distributed at the end of the audition to those who have been chosen to participate. Staging rehearsals will be Oct. 8 and 9, followed by weekly rehearsals each Sunday.
The Nutcracker will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Eisenhower. North Carolina Dance Theatre, an internationally known professional company, is based in Charlotte.
