Annual Spring Concert Performed by Penn State's Percussion Ensemble I

The Penn State Percussion Ensemble I, under the direction of Professor Dan C. Armstrong, will present its annual spring concert on Friday, April 21 at 8 p.m. in the Esber Recital Hall, Music Building I on Penn State's University Park campus. Prof. Smith Toulson will be featured as soloist in Malachite Glass, an unusual work for amplified bass clarinet and percussion quartet by Australian composer Nigel Westlake. The rest of the program will include music from Carmen by Bizet and Histoire du Soldat by Stravinsky, Crown of Thorns by Maslanka, and a fanfare for tambourines conducted by graduate student Henry Sobieski. The program will conclude with a performance of Phantom Dances by Michael Hennagin. The concert will be free and open to the public
