Grammy Nominated Soweto Gospel Choir to Perform February 22

South Africa's Soweto Gospel Choir, which will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in Penn Stat's Eisenhower Auditorium, has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Album for its CD Blessed.
The internationally lauded choir, which makes its Penn State debut, performs an inspirational hand-clapping, foot-stomping concert of traditional and contemporary spiritual music. Earthy rhythms, beautiful harmonies and charismatic voices combine to uplift the soul and celebrate the spirit of South Africa.
Tickets for the Center for the Performing Arts presentation are $29 for an adult, $14 for a University Park student, and $19 for a person 18 and younger. The HUB-Robeson location reopens Jan. 16. Online ticket sales are available throughout the holiday season.
The 49th annual Grammy Awards will be given on Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. CBS will broadcast the show live from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Kohlhepp's Bald Eagle Valley Stone Center sponsors the Soweto Gospel Choir concert. Artistic Viewpoints, an informal moderated featuring a visiting artist or local expert, is offered in Eisenhower Auditorium one hour before the performance and is free for ticket holders. Artistic Viewpoints regularly fills to capacity. Seating is available on a first-arrival basis.
