Phil Hosford in Piano Concert

Phil Hosford, piano, will present a concert on February 3, at 8 p.m. in Esber Recital Hall, Music Building I on the Penn State University Park campus. Acclaimed the world over as an outstanding pianist of his generation, Philip Hosford has appeared as a solo recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist in tours covering six continents. His overseas tours have taken him to the Far East with three tours of mainland China, Japan, Mongolia and Hong Kong, as well as to Africa, South America and numerous engagements in Italy and England.
Mr. Hosford's performances include those in Washington DC at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' Concert Hall and Terrace Theater, four recitals at the Phillips Collection and chamber music at the National Gallery of Art. In New York, Mr. Hosford has given solo recitals at the Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and the Carnegie Recital Hall. London performances include those at the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, and a live recording for the British Broadcast System.
The winner of first or second prizes in fifteen national and international competitions, Philip Hosford's awards include first prizes in the Terrence Judd Awards in London, the Beethoven Foundation Triennial Awards, the Fourteenth Annual East and West Artists Auditions, the Musicians Club of America Competition, the Joanna Hodges International Concerto Competition, and the International Piano Recording Competition. He was also a unanimous winner of the Artistic Ambassador Program's Auditions and the recipient of a Solo Recitalists Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Mr. Hosford is the pianist in the National Philharmonic Trio. Along with his partners violinist Jody Gatwood and cellist Lori Barnet, he performs frequently in the Washington area. He will also appear in the Spring of 2006 as concerto soloist with Piotr Gajewski and the National Philharmonic at the Strathmore Arts Center concert hall.
Philip Hosford has served on the piano faculties of Michigan State University, the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, and the Eastern Music Festival in North Carolina. He is the founder of the Academy of Music in Montgomery County, Maryland which boasts an outstanding performance faculty and currently serves over 800 students.
