Guest Artist Juliet White-Smith to Hold Violin Recital

Violist Juliet White-Smith, guest artist, will present a recital on February 23, at 8 p.m. in the Esber Recital Hall, Music Building I on the Penn State University Park campus. Juliet White-Smith is an active soloist and chamber recitalist and has appeared in professional ensembles in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East to critical acclaim. Her chamber music collaborations have brought her onstage with such luminaries as violinists Andres Cardenes and Benny Kim and pianist Gilbert Kalish. She has been a featured artist at various summer music festivals including Strings in the Mountains at Steamboat Springs, Colorado and the Fontana Festival in Michigan.

A devoted educator with a history of printed contributions in American String Teacher and Journal of the American Viola Society, Dr. White-Smith maintains an active teaching and performing schedule. Her students have gone on to earn advanced degrees at many of this country's most respected music conservatories, including the Eastman School of Music and Cleveland Institute of Music, and have won performing and teaching positions in professional ensembles and institutions of education across the United States. Dr. White-Smith has taught on the faculties of the Interlochen Arts Camp and Bravo! Summer Institute. A prominent advocate of the viola, Dr. White-Smith is the founder of the Rocky Mountain Viola Society and is currently President-Elect of the American Viola Society.

Dr. White-Smith earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music. She currently serves as Associate Professor of Viola and Director of the String Chamber Music Program at the University of Northern Colorado. The concert will be free and open to the public
