Center for the Performing Arts Director to Serve on International Arts Board
February 16, 2006
George Trudeau, director of the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State, was elected to the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) Board of Directors at the organization's recent meeting in New York City.
For more than 20 years, Trudeau has contributed to ISPA through committee and conference activities. ISPA fosters global understanding and cooperation in the performing arts and, according to Trudeau, is a valuable source for gaining a better understanding of non-Western cultural expressions. ISPA relies on international artists to challenge and inspire its members, who as presenters bring that inspiration to their respective communities.
The purpose of ISPA is to develop, nurture, energize and educate an international network of arts leaders and professionals dedicated to advancing the field of the performing arts. ISPA‚s more than 600 members come from 50-plus countries representing every region on the planet.
"ISPA's"cvision is right in line with the Center for the Performing Arts mission and vision, which is to enrich lives through inspiring experiences," Trudeau says.
ISPA conducts two international congresses each year at which members explore complex and sometimes controversial subjects, Trudeau says. The meetings also provide opportunities for business and networking exchange.
January meetings are in New York City, while June gatherings take place in a different part of the world each year. Upcoming host locations include Hong Kong, Belgium and South Africa.
Trudeau, who will serve a three-year term (renewable for a second three-year term), joined the Center for the Performing Arts in July 2004. Previously, he spent 18 years as the director of performing arts at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, New York.
