Penn State's Center for the Performing Arts Wants to Know Your Opinions

February 22, 2006

In an effort to improve services to patrons, the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State is conducting an online survey to learn about satisfaction with its programs and preferences for future performances. To complete the brief survey, visit the Center for the Performing Arts Web site at www.cpa.psu.edu.

The Center for the Performing Arts presents nationally and internationally known touring programs of professional music, theater and dance at Eisenhower and Schwab auditoriums on the University Park campus. The center also provides production, ticketing and audience services to dozens of university and community organizations that use Eisenhower, Schwab and other Penn State venues.

In addition, the center commissions and presents new works by leading artists. Its audience development efforts include an annual series of performances for school children, artist residencies and pre-performance discussions that provide insight into what's on stage.

Penn State's Office of Planning and Institutional Assessment, which works with departments and units across the university to help them improve key processes, assess performance and conduct strategic planning, hosts the survey. The office promotes the effective and efficient use of resources to maintain and improve institutional quality.

All responses to the survey will remain anonymous, and results will be reported on an aggregate basis only.

"We hope to learn more about our audiences and gain information to improve our operations," says Laura Sullivan, marketing and communications director at the Center for the Performing Arts. "This online survey is the first phase in a major two-year research project that we are engaged in with several other colleges and universities."

The larger project is a value-and-impact study being conducted by Alan S. Brown & Associates for Major University Presenters, a professional organization of 20 colleges and universities with on-campus performing arts centers. The Center for the Performing Arts has been a member of Major University Presenters since its inception in 2002.
