George Carlin is Off Base and On Target This Friday at Eisenhower

February 22, 2006

Award-winning comedian George Carlin returns to Penn State's Eisenhower Auditorium at 8 p.m. Friday in a show called Off-Base and On Target. This is the performance that was rescheduled due to illness last month. Tickets for the original date will be honored on Feb. 24.

Tickets are still available in both sections of the auditorium. Section one (orchestra and grand tier levels) are $39. Section two tickets in the balcony are $34. For tickets and information, visit www.cpa.psu.edu or phone (814) 863-0255. Outside the local calling area, dial 1-800-ARTS-TIX. Tickets are also available at Eisenhower Auditorium, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Thursday and 8 a.m. to show time Friday; Penn State Tickets Downtown, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday; HUB-Robeson Center Information Desk, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Friday; and Bryce Jordan Center, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.

Carlin, a revolutionary stand-up comedian on social commentary, performs 90 concerts each year around the country, selling almost a quarter of a million tickets. For more than four decades, he has used his razor-sharp humor to point out hypocrisy. He is refreshingly forthright, cogently making points that few in his audience would dare to think much less express. He is not only distinguished by his choice of subject matter, but also by his unique viewpoints and his in-your-face delivery.

Carlin's 13th HBO comedy special, George Carlin: Life is Worth Losing, premiered last fall. A DVD and CD of the show are forthcoming, bringing his album total, including compilations and books on tape, to 25.

Carlin's third book, When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?, was published by Hyperion in 2004 and is now out in paperback. The book reached number two on The New York Times Best Seller List and also had the honor of being banned by Wal-Mart. His previous books include Brain Droppings and Napalm & Silly Putty. The comedian appeared in 2004's Jersey Girl, his 11th feature film.

Also appearing as part of this promoter-presented event is special guest Dennis Blair.

Since the George Carlin show is not a Center for the Performing Arts presentation, regular Penn State event parking fees will be charged at the Eisenhower Parking Deck and other parking areas on the University Park campus for patrons who do not already have parking permits.
