After Hours at the Palmer Museum of Art
October 12, 2006
On Saturday, October 28, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. the Palmer Museum of Art is opening its doors after hours for a performance by Tango. Local musicians Bruce Young, on fiddle, voice, and guitar, and Andy Tolins, on voice and guitar, will play an eclectic mix of love songs from diverse sources-from Swing-era jazz to Irish folk music-in conjunction with the exhibition Couples Discourse.
The upcoming Art After Hours performance by Tango is being sponsored by the Mount Nittany Medical Center as an extension of their efforts to encourage healthy lifestyle choices in the community. "It is our pleasure to support the local arts and specifically this event," said Thomas J. Murray, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mount Nittany Medical Center, "because it highlights alcohol-free entertainment."
Bruce Young's and Andy Tolins' performance at the museum continues a series of alcohol-free Art After Hours programs at the Palmer Museum. Past After Hours events have drawn capacity crowds to the museum. The galleries are open to the public and refreshments will be served, compliments of All Seasons Catering, Chocolate Madness, Harrison's Wine Country Grill, and Moose Juice Coffee & Concoctions (located inside Stuffingtown USA), in addition to the performance by Tango.
Bruce Young is a master fiddler who works with Pennsylvania students through Arts in Education programs for the PA Council of the Arts. He has also been a frequent performer locally at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. Andy Tolins is an award-winning guitarist, songwriter, and singer who leads the Tripe A Blues Band and the Tolins' Bluegrass Revue in State College. His repertoire includes bluegrass, Celtic, blues, rock and roll, and swing. "Eclectic Love Songs" draws from such diverse sources as Swing-era jazz to Irish folk music and includes love songs, murder ballads, and country classics.
Admission to Art After Hours is free but is limited to 250 guests on a first-come, first-served basis.
