School of Music Hosts Guest Lecturer Steve Barnett on October 14

Steve Barnett, CEO and Chairman of Columbia Records, one of the world's largest record labels, will be holding an informal conversation with students on Saturday, October 14, 1:30 p.m. in room 112 Music Building II, to talk about various topics such as the music recording industry, the music A&R process and how artists are signed.

Barnett became president of Epic Records in 2004, and head of Columbia Records in December 2005. Prior to 2004, he was executive vice president and general manager of Epic Records where he was key in establishing a wide variety of artists, including Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Franz Ferdinand, Howie Day, Modest Mouse, Good Charlotte, and Los Lonely Boys. He was instrumental in bringing legendary rock artists AC/DC to the label, and helped solidify an innovative marketing agreement with Integrity Music Group, one of the fastest growing companies in the Christian Music market.

From 1980 to 2000, Barnett was executive vice president, worldwide marketing, senior vice president, worldwide marketing, senior vice president, International, all with Epic Records. Previously, he had served as president of Hard To Handle Management, where his clients included AC/DC, Cyndi Lauper, M People and Foreigner. Prior to establishing Hard To Handle, Barnett was a partner in the UK artist management firm Part Rock.
