April 11, 2007
A limited number of seats in the front two rows of the orchestra section will be available on Wednesday, April 18, and Thursday, April 19, at $20 each for the evening performances of Rent at Penn State's Eisenhower Auditorium.
The $20 tickets go on sale at the Arts Ticket Center in Eisenhower on the University Park campus at 5:30 p.m. two hours before Rent's curtain time on April 18 and 19 only. The tickets are available on a first-come basis to the general public and must be purchased with cash. Each person may buy a maximum of two tickets.
Winner of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize, Rent is the story of eight young friends struggling to survive in New York City's East Village. The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State presents the musical, which includes adult content.
"In keeping with the spirit of the show and the vision of Jonathan Larson [the show's creator], we are happy to be able to offer prime seats to people who otherwise would not be able to purchase them," explains original Rent producer Kevin McCollum. "Jonathan was himself a struggling artist and his dream was to create a universal piece of musical theater that's available to everyone."
College Park Communities sponsors the performance. FOX 8, ABC 23 and radio station QWK Rock are the media sponsors. Artistic Viewpoints, an informal discussion featuring a visiting artist or local expert, is offered in Eisenhower Auditorium one hour before each performance and is free for ticket holders. Artistic Viewpoints regularly fills to capacity. Seating is available on a first-arrival basis.
