Penn State Opera Gala to Perform on February 9

Over 130 singers, 4 soloists and 3 conductors will join forces on Friday evening, February 9 at 8 p.m. in the Esber Recital Hall for the Penn State Opera Gala. Hosted by WPSU classical music announcer Bob Barton, the hour- long program will feature Great Choruses from Great Operas. The Oriana Singers and the Penn State Glee Club will present music from Tannhauser, Der Freischutz, The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, La Traviata and Cavalleria Rusticana. The evening concludes with the soon- to- be- premiered piece "Dan-u-el" from American composer Kirke Mechem's new opera John Brown. The Gala will include faculty and alumni soloists Susan Boardman, Gladys Davis, Richard Kennedy and Raymond Sage with conductors Scott Barton, Christopher Kiver and Beverly Patton.

Tickets are $4.99 for adults and $2 for students and can be purchased at the door.
