Exhibition Features Work of Three European Architecture Firms

January 22, 2007

Anxious Climate: architecture at the edge of the environment, featuring the work of three European architecture firms, is on display in the Willard G. Rouse III Gallery in the Stuckeman Family Building on the Penn State University Park campus through March 1.

The three firms in the exhibition—Cero 9 of Madrid, Rahm Architects of Lausanne and R&Sie of Paris—combine robust architectural forms and innovative building systems, developing environments that challenge social conceptions of a stable natural order. It is unclear in many of their projects if nature precedes or is produced by technological systems, building forms and/or planning strategies. Because of this, the resulting work is both unsettling and exhilarating.

The exhibition was organized and curated by David Gissen, assistant professor of architecture, on behalf of the exhibitions committee in the Penn State Department of Architecture.
