Ohio State Art Educator to Give Public Lecture

Christine Ballengee Morris, Ohio State University associate professor of art education, will give a free public lecture, “(RE)Searching for Social Justice: Revolution, Evolution and Solutions,” at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9, in Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library. Ballengee Morris is the keynote speaker for the Third Annual Graduate Research in Art Education Conference being held at Penn State on November 9-10. A public reception in the Arts Cottage will follow her lecture. Her presentation is co-sponsored by the Penn State School of Visual Arts’ John M. Anderson Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series, the Art Education Program in the School of Visual Arts and the Arts and Humanities Library.
A scholar of indigenous, Appalachian and multicultural arts, Ballengee Morris examines social justice, social reconstructivism and postcolonialism as it relates to arts policy, curricula development and pedagogy among other areas. She is the author of a book, Altar Art and Connective Aesthetics: Cultures, Healing and Education, and a monograph, Evolving theme of teaching multicultural art education, and she co-wrote Interdisciplinary Approaches to Art Education in High School, which was published by the National Art Education Association.
Ballengee Morris earned a B.S. and M.A. at Miami University of Ohio and her Ph.D. at Penn State. She spent fourteen years teaching in the U.S. public school system and internationally in Chile, Brazil, Australia and Ireland. Ballengee Morris has been teaching undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students at Ohio State University (OSU) since 1995 and was the founding director of the Multicultural Center. She serves as the art education graduate studies chair and coordinator of American Indian Studies at OSU.
