Penn State Double Bass Professor Awarded Performance Fellowship
April 30, 2008
Robert Nairn, Penn State associate professor of music in double bass, was recently awarded a $25,000 Howard Fellowship for 2008–09 from the George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation at Brown University. He is the winner of the only performance fellowship from the foundation, which was established in 1952 to support individuals in the crucial middle stages of their careers in the creative and liberal arts.
Nairn, a native of Australia who serves as principal bass for the Handel and Haydn Society and president-elect of the International Society of Bassists, will use the funding to work on Australian double bass compositions.
