Landscape Architect Margie Ruddick to Give Public Lecture

January 14, 2008

Landscape architect Margie Ruddick will give a free public lecture, "Beyond Sustainability: What Are We Doing Here, Anyway?" at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, in the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium, Palmer Museum of Art, on the Penn State University Park campus.  Ruddick is the fifth speaker this academic year in the Department of Landscape Architecture's Bracken Lecture Series.

Ruddick has pioneered an approach to landscape design that blends a distinct aesthetic expression with ecological purpose.  Her work is recognized for integrating the highest level of design with an intense focus on natural systems, even in the most urban settings.  Ruddick has received numerous awards, including the National Audubon Society’s 2006 Rachel Carson Award, which recognizes "visionary women whose contributions, talent, and energy have advanced conservation and environmental education locally and on a global scale."
