Art Educator to Give Public Lecture

Liora Bresler, professor and pianist at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, will give a free public lecture at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, in the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium, Palmer Museum of Art. Bresler’s lecture is sponsored by the Penn State School of Visual Arts’ John M. Anderson Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series.

Bresler’s research includes arts and aesthetic education, qualitative research methodology, and intellectual and social entrepreneurship. She received a B.A. (piano performance and philosophy) in 1975 and M.A. (musicology) in 1983 from Tel-Aviv University, and M.A. (education) in 1985 and Ph.D. (education) in 1987 from Stanford University. She was the recipient of the United States Society for Education Through Art’s Edwin Ziegfield Award for distinguished international leadership in art education (2007) and the American Alliance for Theatre and Education’s Lin Wright Special Recognition Award (2007). Bresler is the co-founder and co-editor of the electronic journal, International Journal for Arts and Education, and sits on the editorial board of ten international journals. She served as editor for the International Handbook of Research in Arts and Education (Springer, 2007), and currently serves as editor for a book series, Landscapes: Aesthetics, Arts and Education. At the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Bresler is a professor at the College of Education, fellow at the Academy of Entrepreneurial Leadership, a faculty in the Campus Honors Program and an affiliate professor in the School of Music.
