American Art Lecture
Memory and Melancholy: Marsden Hartley's Elegiac Art by Randall R. Griffey, Associate Curator of American Art, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Extending across Marsden Hartley's wide-ranging imagery is a persisting reliance on memory as a springboard to imagination and expression. This lecture will focus on the elegiac function that much of Hartley's most memorable art served.
