Architect and Alumnus John Jackson to Give Public Lecture

Architect and alumnus John A. Jackson will give a free public lecture, “Building Skins and the Fabric of Façade Engineering,” at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, in the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium, Palmer Museum of Art, on the Penn State University Park campus. He will discuss the construction, functions, materials, methods, and systems of advanced building façade design. Jackson is the first speaker this year in the Raymond A. Bowers Distinguished Lecture Series, which is sponsored by the Raymond A. Bowers Program for Excellence in Design and Construction of the Built Environment and the Department of Architecture.
Jackson received his Bachelor of Architecture in 2003 and Master of Engineering in 2004 from Penn State. After graduation, he joined HOK in Washington, D.C., and then moved to Buro Happold Ltd’s Façade Engineering group in London. Jackson has been involved in a variety of challenging projects, including London Bridge Place with Renzo Piano Building Workshop and the Louvre Abu Dhabi with Atelier Jean Nouvel. His current research focuses on the structural use of glass in building facades. Jackson has lectured on façade engineering at the Universities of Bath and Plymouth in the United Kingdom.
