Penn State School of Theatre Proudly Presents Romeo and Juliet

Octoer 1, 2009

The Penn State School of Theatre's University Resident Theatre Company in cooperation with the Hintz Family Alumni Center will present an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet on the University Park campus Hintz Family Alumni Center lawn, October 13, 14, 15, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. The outdoor performance is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

The adaptation is a slightly shortened version of the classic romantic tale as love at first sight becomes deadly as "star-crossed lovers" struggle against a world of opposition. Drenched in poetic eloquence, this timeless story crackles with contemporary relevance. Experience the perennial clash between new love and ancient hatred as one of William Shakespeare's greatest plays is re-discovered, re-examined, and re-imagined.

Romeo and Juliet is being produced in association with University Park Allocation Committee, College of Arts and Architecture, the Institute for the Arts and Humanities, the Weiss Institute, Committee for Early Modern Studies, College of Communications, College of Information Sciences and Technology, and the Commonwealth Campus system.

In addition to the live performances, Romeo and Juliet will be webcast live and streamed to the commonwealth campuses. There will also be interviews with the artists, background information on the performers, and live backstage footage leading up to the performance. For more information, e-mail theatre@psu.edu.
