Landscape Architect Herbert Dreiseitl to Give Public Lecture

Landscape architect and artist Herbert Dreiseitl will give a free public lecture, "Waterscapes for Cities of the Future," at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, in 112 Chambers Building, on the Penn State University Park campus. Dreiseitl is the first speaker this year in the Department of Landscape Architecture's Bracken Lecture Series.

Dreiseitl founded Atelier Dreiseitl in Überlingen, Germany in 1980. The firm continues to emphasize the management of rainwater (surface water runoff) in a sustainable manner. Dreiseitl seeks to awaken a new understanding of sustainability, using public art intrinsically within overall landscape planning solutions, bringing universal themes of ecology and well-being to light. One of his best-known projects, Berlin’s Potsdammer Platz, uses rainwater for flushing toilets, irrigation, floodwater protection and temperature moderation. A member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and Professional Association of Visual Artists, Dreiseitl has written numerous books, including New Waterscapes: Planning, Building and Designing with Water (Birkhäuser Press). He lectures worldwide and his work is widely published.
