Museum Curator Elizabeth Schlatter Gives a Lecture

N. Elizabeth Schlatter, deputy director and curator of exhibitions at the University of Richmond Museums, Virginia, will give a free public lecture, “Curating ‘Leaded’ or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Trust the Artists,” at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, in the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium, Palmer Museum of Art, on the Penn State University Park campus. The Penn State School of Visual Arts’ John M. Anderson Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series and the Palmer Museum of Art co-sponsor Schlatter’s lecture.
A native of Houston, Schlatter has curated more than 20 exhibitions in Richmond, including recent exhibitions of art by Andreas Feininger, Hans Friedrich Grohs, Sue Johnson and Fiona Ross. Prior to working at the University of Richmond, she was an exhibitions project director for the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) in Washington, D.C. Her career also includes experience as the coordinator of annual giving at the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, and internships at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery in Washington.
As an independent curator and writer, Schlatter has organized exhibitions for contemporary art spaces in the mid-Atlantic region and is the author of Museum Careers: A Practical Guide for Novices and Students (Left Coast Press, Inc.). She has authored several articles and essays for Focus and Photovision magazines, the National Women in the Arts Bulletin, and the American National Biography (Oxford University Press) among others.
