School of Theatre Presents the 2009-2010 Season
September 15, 2009
The Penn State School of Theatre will open its 2009–10 season with an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet on the University Park campus Hintz Family Alumni Center lawn, October 13, 14, 15, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. The outdoor performance is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
November 2 thru 19, She Loves Me, donned “the most charming musical ever written” will be presented in the Penn State Downtown Theatre Center. Funny, intelligent, honest, and sentimental, She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance.
School House Rock Live, December 4 and 5, will be presented at the State Theatre, 130 West College, Ave., State College, PA. The University Resident Theatre Company is collaborating with the State Theatre to present a live production of the popular program, which entertained and educated audiences with tunes such as “Just a Bill,” “Unpack Your Adjectives,” and “Conjunction Junction.” Tickets are available through the State Theatre box office (814-272-0606).
The spring season opens with Sunday in the Park with George, February 16 thru March 3, where “the art of making art is putting it together bit by bit. . . piece by piece.”
The season concludes with Palmer Park, April 13 thru 24, where two professional couples—one Black, the other White—become neighbors in Detroit after the race riots of 1967. Together, they and their friends strive to maintain the racial integration of their community and their children’s school. In an initiative lead by the School of Theatre, Palmer Park is scheduled to be produced at Big Ten universities across the country during the 2009–10 academic year.
In addition to the mainstage theatre productions, the School of Theatre will also present a variety of events in the Pavilion Theatre, including a haunted house in October, The Brothers Size, November 10, 11, 12, The Odyssey, February 23, 24, 25, Cultural Conversations and Nu.
