School of Music Discounts The Penn State School of Music announces its fall concert season with a 40 percent off special. Buy your tickets for School of Music concerts at Eisenhower and Schwab auditoriums in advance and save 40 percent. Avoid standing in a long line at the box office, help the School of Music start concerts on time, and save. No limit on the number of tickets available with this discount. Ticket are available at the Eisenhower Box Office [814-863-0255 or 1-800-ARTS-TIX] or online at www.cpa.psu.edu. Prices vary ($8 adult/$4 student for most ensemble concerts; $15 adult/$6 student for Mosaic and opera). The discount is available up to one hour prior to concerts and does not apply to Bandorama.

Kathryn Thomas Umble, flute, has presented recitals in Europe and throughout the United States, including venues such as Alice Tully Hall and Symphony Space, New York, and the Milhaud Society at the Cleveland Institute of Music with members of the Cleveland Orchestra. Among recent performances, Kathryn Umble was guest artist in recital with the Aurista Ensemble in New York City, performed in recital at the 2008 National Flute Association Convention, was featured guest artist of the Pittsburgh Flute Club, and concerto soloist with the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra.

Classical guitarist Fran¨ois Fowler is a recipient of national and international prizes including the 2001 Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) ! International Guitar Competition and the 1997 Gibson Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Guitar Competition. Fowler has given recitals in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Faculty Recital: Steven Smith, piano - Works of Ludwig Van Beethoven, Sunday, September 27, 4:00 p.m., Esber Recital Hall, Music Bldg I

Steven Herbert Smith, professor of piano at Penn State, has performed as soloist throughout the United States and around the world. His background includes graduate degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Salzburg's Mozarteum, and his principal teachers included Cecile Staub Genhart and Kurt NeumŸller. Recently he worked in Vienna with the celebrated! pianist Paul Badura-Skoda regarding aspects of the Beethoven repertoire.

Choral Collage, featuring seven Penn State Choirs, Saturday, October 3, 8:00 p.m., Worship Hall, Pasquerilla Spiritual Center
Seven choirs from Penn State will combine to present a concert in the glorious acoustic of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center. Each choir will perform two pieces, including music for mixed, men's, and women's choirs from the fifteenth century to the present day. As well as an aural treat, the performers will make full use of the appealing space in the Worship Hall. The concert will conclude with the audience joining over 300 singers to sing the Alma Mater. Come and join the Penn State choirs in this FREE concert as we celebrate Parent's Weekend!
