New Award Recognizes Talented High School Students
In September 2005, 24 high school students visited the University Park campus to participate in recognition activities for the inaugural Pennsylvania Award for Creative Achievement in the Arts (PaCAA). The College of Arts and Architecture initiated the award to recognize Pennsylvania high school juniors who exhibit exceptional talent in the design arts, music, theatre or visual arts or writing about the arts. Students submitted nomination materials, including examples of their work and letters of recommendation, in spring 2005, and the entries were evaluated by Penn State faculty. (NUMBER) of (NUMBER) nominees were selected to be recognized. While visiting Penn State, the students, their parents and their teachers (each student had the opportunity to invite one teacher who influenced his/her interest in the arts) met with department heads and faculty members, toured campus and attended an award luncheon with College of Arts and Architecture Dean Richard Durst.
